UNLOCK PDF
Your PDF. Without the password.
Unlock PDF removes a password you know from a PDF, and then does the rest of the paperwork: fill in a form, sign, combine, remove, rotate or reorder pages, make the file smaller, add a password, turn photos or paper into a PDF, and save pages as pictures or text. Everything happens on your iPhone or iPad. The app always saves a new copy. Your original files are not changed.
Which version? This page describes Unlock PDF 1.3 and later. Earlier versions remove passwords only: see Remove a password.
Support
Remove a password
- Choose a PDF in the app, or share one from Files or Mail and choose Unlock PDF.
- Enter the current PDF password and tap Unlock PDF.
- Tap Save to Files and choose a destination, or tap Share. In the extension, tap Done afterwards.
Several PDFs at once
Choose or share several PDFs together. The password you enter is tried on all of them. If some need a different password, enter it for the rest or skip them. Save the copies one by one, or switch on Combine into one PDF.
Fill in a form
- Open Settings (the gear on the first screen), tap Profiles, then Add a profile, and type what you want forms to know: name, phone, email, address. Leave out what you don't need.
- Tap Fill & sign and choose the PDF. Fields that ask for your details are filled in. Tap any field to type or to change it, and tap check boxes to tick them.
- Tap Done, then save or share.
Fields are recognised by their names, so check the form before you send it. A PDF that is only a picture of a form has no fields to fill; use Sign > Add text to put lines of text or check marks on it instead.
After you save or share a filled form, the app offers to keep any new details you typed, such as a phone number it did not have. Tap Keep them and choose the profile they belong to, or save them as a new profile. Not now leaves everything as it was.
Several profiles
You can keep up to 12 profiles: one for yourself and more for the people or businesses you fill in forms for. Add them under Settings > Profiles, and give one a name of your own, such as Work, if you like.
Forms are filled in with the profile chosen under "Fill in forms with". Inside a form, the button at the bottom shows which profile is in use; tap it to pick another one, or No profile to fill in the form by hand. The app replaces what the first profile put in and leaves what you typed yourself.
Sign
- Tap Fill & sign and choose the PDF. For a form, tap Done on the Fill in screen first.
- Tap Add signature and draw it with your finger. It is kept for next time.
- Drag the signature into place. Drag its corner to resize it. The arrows move between pages.
- Add text puts today's date, a check mark, details from your profiles or any other line next to it.
- Tap Done, then save or share.
You can keep up to six signatures, such as your full signature and your initials. Settings shows them all; swipe one to delete it.
The signature is placed on the page as a picture, the way a signature on paper is. It is not a certificate-based digital signature.
Combine PDFs
Tap Combine PDFs and choose two or more. If some are locked, enter their password first. Tap Change the order and drag the PDFs into the order you want; the combined PDF follows it and is named after the first one.
Remove, rotate or reorder pages
Tap Remove or rotate pages and choose a PDF. Tap a page to leave it out, tap it again to bring it back, and use its arrow to rotate it. To change the order, hold a page and drag it to its new place. Tap Done, then save. To split a PDF, choose One PDF per page under Save as.
Reduce file size
Tap Reduce file size and choose a PDF. The app shows the size before and after. It scales down the pictures inside the PDF; text stays sharp. A PDF that is mostly text will not get smaller, and the app says so. Reducing needs iOS 16.4 or later.
Add or change a password
Tap Add a password, choose a PDF and type the new password. The copy asks for it each time it is opened. To change a password, unlock the PDF first, then switch on Set a new password.
Use English letters, numbers and symbols, so the copy opens in every PDF reader. A long password is what keeps it safe. The app does not keep the password and cannot recover it, so store it somewhere safe.
Photos to PDF and Scan to PDF
Photos to PDF makes one page out of every photo you choose, in the order you tap them, up to 60 at a time. Scan to PDF uses the camera to capture paper pages and straightens them; iOS asks for camera access the first time.
Text that your device can read in photos and scans is added to the PDF unseen, so the PDF can be searched and its text copied. Settings > Make text searchable switches this off.
Save as pictures or text
On the screen where you save, Save as offers PDF, One PDF per page, Pictures (JPEG), Pictures (PNG) and Text. Pictures are one per page. Text saves the words of the PDF as a text file. In the app, pages that are only pictures are read on your device; the share sheet saves the text a PDF already carries.
Settings
The gear on the first screen opens Settings: your profiles, your signatures, Unlock PDF Pro and Restore purchase, the switch for searchable text, help, and a link to contact support.
Free PDFs and Unlock PDF Pro
Your first 3 PDFs are free, with every tool. After that, Unlock PDF Pro unlocks unlimited PDFs with one purchase. There is no subscription. A PDF is counted when its copy is first saved or shared, whatever was done to it. A combined PDF counts each PDF that went into it. A PDF made from photos or a scan counts as one.
Pro is bought in the app: tap the "free PDFs left" label on the first screen, or open Settings and tap Get Pro or restore a purchase. The share sheet cannot sell, so it asks you to open the app.
Already paid?
If you bought Unlock PDF before it became free, Pro is yours and unlocks automatically. If it does not, open the purchase screen and tap Restore purchase while signed in to the Apple Account that bought the app. The same button brings Pro back on a new device.
For refunds, use reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple handles all purchases.
Can't find the extension?
In the share sheet, scroll the apps row to More and add Unlock PDF to your favorites. The share sheet offers unlocking, combining, pages, file size, a password and Save as. Filling in and signing are in the app.
Wrong password?
Use the password that opens the PDF. Unlock PDF cannot recover or guess an unknown password. That includes a password you added with the app.
Cancelled saving?
Tap Save to Files again. Your prepared copy remains available until you replace it or close the extension.
Working offline
Download your PDF to your device first. Cloud providers may need internet to download or save documents. Buying or restoring Pro needs a connection.
Signed and complex PDFs
Rewriting a digitally signed PDF can invalidate its signatures. Keep the original for verification and check the saved copy. Some advanced PDF features may not be preserved, and a combined PDF does not carry over the bookmarks of the PDFs it was made from.

Privacy policy for Unlock PDF
Last updated: October 4, 2026. This policy applies to the Unlock PDF iOS app and its share extension, provided by Hevel Iagudaev / AVI-WEB.
On-device processing
Unlock PDF does its work on your device. Removing or adding a password, filling in and signing, combining, changing pages, reducing the size, making a PDF from photos or a scan, and saving pages as pictures or text all happen there. The app does not upload documents, passwords, your profiles or your signatures. It collects no analytics, shows no ads and needs no account.
Documents and passwords
A temporary copy is created to process each PDF. The original is unchanged. Passwords are held only for the current operation and are not saved. That covers the password that opens a PDF and a new password you add to a copy: the app does not keep either one and cannot recover them. Temporary input/output copies are removed after completion, replacement, or closing the extension. Cancelling Save to Files keeps the prepared output so you can try again, and a copy you share stays available until you choose another PDF or close the app. After a forced close, leftover temporary files are removed the next time the app or the extension starts.
Profiles and signatures
You can save profiles in the app (Settings > Profiles): a name, phone number, email address, company and postal address, for yourself and for other people or businesses you fill in forms for. You can also save the signatures you draw. The app uses them to fill in forms and to place on pages you sign. After you save or share a form you filled in, the app may offer to keep new details you typed; it keeps them only if you agree.
These are stored in the app's own storage on your device and nowhere else. They are left out of iCloud and computer backups, and they are not sent to the developer or to anyone else. You can change or delete a profile under Settings > Profiles, and delete signatures under Settings. Deleting the app removes them all.
They only leave your device inside a PDF you choose to save or share: a form you filled in contains what was filled in, and a signed page contains your signature.
Camera, photos and reading text
Scan to PDF uses the camera to capture paper pages. The camera is used only while you scan, and the scan is turned into a PDF on your device.
Photos to PDF uses the system photo picker. The app receives only the photos you choose and has no access to the rest of your library. If you save pages as pictures and choose Save Image, iOS adds those pictures to your photo library.
Text in photos, scans and picture-only pages is read on your device by iOS, so that the PDF can be searched or its text saved. Nothing is sent to a server for this. Settings > Make text searchable switches it off for photos and scans.
Purchases and the free allowance
From version 1.3 the app is free for your first 3 PDFs. Unlock PDF Pro is a one-time purchase handled by Apple; the developer does not receive your payment details or your Apple Account information. The app remembers two things, on your device only: whether Pro is unlocked, and how many free PDFs you have used. They are shared between the app and its share extension and are not sent anywhere.
To see whether you already own Pro, the app asks the App Store on your device for your purchases of this app. If you bought Unlock PDF before it became free, that record is what unlocks Pro for you.
Offline use and cloud storage
Offline processing requires a PDF already downloaded to your device. If you choose iCloud Drive or another provider as a source or destination, or share a copy to another app, that provider or app handles the transfer and storage under its own privacy policy. Buying or restoring Pro needs an internet connection.
